The Hydrasynth Explorer comes from ASM (Ashun Sound Machines), a relatively young but innovative company that has quickly made a name for itself in the synthesizer community. ASM is known for its modern, digital synthesizers, which are characterized by their flexible sound engine and user-friendly interfaces. Since the introduction of the first Hydrasynth model, ASM has shown with each new device that they develop synthesizers that meet the high demands of musicians and sound designers. The ASM Hydrasynth Explorer is a digital wavemorphing synthesizer equipped with an 8-voice polyphonic sound generator. Its compact design and low weight make it ideal for mobile applications. Despite its size, the Explorer offers the same powerful sound engine as the larger Hydrasynth models. Particularly noteworthy is the Polytouch® keyboard with 37 "medium size" keys, which offers both velocity and aftertouch, allowing for a wide range of expressive possibilities.
The Hydrasynth Explorer is monotimbral, but with its fully polyphonic aftertouch and flexible modulation matrix, it offers a wide range of sound design options. In this limited edition, the synthesizer's eye-catching orange housing makes it a unique eye-catcher. But it's not just the exterior that's impressive - the technical features are also impressive.
With its three oscillators and 219 single-cycle waveforms, the Hydrasynth Explorer offers an impressive variety of sounds. The WaveScan parameter and the Wavelist mode make it possible to create and edit up to eight wavetables per oscillator. The device also has 8 user-defined wavelists per oscillator, giving the musician almost unlimited sonic freedom. Added to this is the powerful mixer with a noise generator and a ring modulator, which can further refine the sound.
Another highlight of the Hydrasynth Explorer are the two filters, which can be connected either in series or in parallel. Filter 1 offers 11 different models, including 12 and 24 dB ladder filters, high-pass and low-pass filters as well as special filters such as the vocal filter. Filter 2 is a 12 dB SEM-style filter that can be continuously blended between low-pass and high-pass modes. This opens up a wide range of creative sound shaping possibilities.
For musicians who also appreciate experimental sounds, the Hydrasynth Explorer offers two so-called mutants per oscillator. These enable FM synthesis, Wavestack™, Hard Sync and other interesting sound modulations. The synthesizer's modulation matrix allows up to 32 user-defined modulation routings, allowing the Hydrasynth Explorer to be perfectly adapted to individual requirements. There are also five DAHDSR envelopes and five LFOs with different waveforms and modes that offer additional flexibility.
