The Rebirth of a Digital Delay Legend
The Roland SDE-3000 saw the light of day in 1983, at the dawn of the digital effects era, and today has legend status among fans of vintage equipment. With its distinctly musical character, long delay times, and ability to store and recall presets, the rack legend became the delay of choice for the best live guitarists, session musicians, and sound engineers of the day. Even 40 years later, the SDE-3000's special sound has lost none of its appeal.
With the SDE-3000D, you get not one, but two authentic recreations of the coveted archetype in the compact format of a floor pedal. In addition to its fully independent delays, the flexible internal routing and advanced input and output options offer plenty of versatility for all kinds of modern mono and stereo rigs. Modulation and sound shaping capabilities have also been enhanced. In addition, 100 memory locations are available for storing favorite setups. At the same time, the SDE-3000D's inspiring vintage sounds can be easily integrated into any live or studio setup thanks to a wide range of internal and external control options, including MIDI.
Digital Retro Magic
Musicians and sound engineers like to reach for certain classic effects, as they reliably enhance any sound. The SDE-3000 also possesses this magical effect. When used with live instruments, the SDE-3000 can unfold its full expressive power. For this purpose, the digital delay has a particularly wide dynamic range, an adjustable delay phase, extensive modulation options and a second-long, transparent yet warm delay sound. The sound of the SDE-3000 shaped the music of the 1980s and 1990s, and continues to be a source of inspiration for sound researchers and effects enthusiasts worldwide. With the SDE-3000D, you too can now enjoy the same delay sounds that produced some of the most famous songs of all time.
Faithful recreation
Unlike the clear, precise sound of most digital delays, the SDE-3000 stood out from the crowd with its warm, musical sound. This was based on sophisticated and complex digital signal processing combined with the non-linear behavior of the supporting analog circuitry. This included the varying frequency response of the preamp depending on the degree of input level, the magnetic saturation of the anti-alias filter, and the changing modulation due to the temporal components. During the development of the SDE-3000D, we intensively analyzed all these factors to preserve the special character of this time-honored classic in the modern era.
Authentic details, modern enhancements
The SDE-3000D offers nearly all the parameters of the SDE-3000 on a retro control surface derived from the original vintage hardware. The two selectable delay sections have different frequency characteristics, which were instrumental in creating the appealing sound of the original. In addition, the special timbre of the external feedback loop circuit has also been recreated. This can be optionally deactivated on the SDE-3000D or additionally processed by an internal EQ. Furthermore, 100 memory locations are available (the original offered only eight), including carryover function when switching sounds.
