EVH and BOSS present the SDE-3000EVH Dual Digital Delay, an authentic recreation of the stereo delay that was instrumental in shaping the live sound of Eddie Van Halen and his massive 3-cabinet setup. Based on the Roland SDE-3000 vintage rack delay, the powerful SDE-3000EVH combines two SDE-3000s in one floor pedal, enhanced with multiple connections for building a wet/dry/wet rig - just like Eddie. In addition, you get eight presets from EVH, taken directly from his delay units. This way, you can take advantage of the master's spacey delay sound in your setup, too.

Eddie Van Halen and the SDE-3000

Eddie Van Halen is one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time. His playful musicianship, thrilling performances, and otherworldly playing techniques will continue to inspire generations of guitarists. No less legendary is Eddie's breathtaking sound, which he refined throughout his career with ever new amplifiers and effects.

The Roland SDE-3000 delays were perfect for his unique wet/dry/wet live rig approach, producing a full, high-quality sound with special delay parameters that allowed him to tailor the sound to his exact preferences. After many years with the SDE-3000s, Eddie - tireless and eager to experiment - looked again for other delays with which to further tweak his sound. But he found no other delay that could hold a candle to the SDE-3000, and trusted the two units in his stage rig from then until the end of his long career.

Simple Wet/Dry/Wet Setup

In the early 1990s, Eddie developed his unusual Wet/Dry/Wet setup with three speaker cabinets. While the dry signal is played back through the center cabinet, the left and right cabinets are wet-delayed only to create a wide, spacious soundscape. Thanks to the numerous outputs and flexible routing modes, you can recreate this setup with an SDE-3000EVH and your own amplifiers.

EVH presets at the touch of a button

The SDE-3000EVH offers eight EVH presets, selected via a dedicated switch. The first four presets were designed for wet/dry/wet setups and correspond to the presets Eddie used in his live rig. The remaining four presets offer the same sounds, adapted for use with a conventional stereo amp.

The rebirth of vintage delay

Unlike the clear, precise sound of most digital delays from the 1980s, the SDE-3000 stood out from the crowd with its warm, musical sound. This was based on sophisticated and complex digital signal processing combined with the non-linear behavior of the supporting analog circuitry. This included the varying frequency response of the preamp depending on the degree of input level, the magnetic saturation of the anti-alias filter, and the changing modulation due to the temporal components. In designing the SDE-3000EVH, BOSS intensively analyzed all these factors to preserve the special character of this time-honored classic in the modern era.
