Each unit features an LED display that shows the envelope curve. Additionally, there is an Attack knob for manually adjusting the attack time and a Decay/Release knob for manually adjusting the decay and release times, respectively. The mode switch allows you to choose between AD, AR, and ADSR. This enables you to create both short, percussive envelopes and longer envelope shapes within the described range of possibilities.
For audio processing, each unit of the Doepfer A-142-2 Envelope Controlled VCA features an audio input and an audio output. The audio level can be adjusted manually using the audio level control. In addition, each unit features a gate input and a manual gate in the form of a pushbutton. This allows the respective envelope to be triggered either by an external gate signal or manually. An envelope output is also available, so that the generated envelope can be used not only internally for the VCA but also routed separately to other patch destinations.
Another important connection is the CVT input. This serves as a time control input. The associated CVT attenuator is also designed as a mini-fader without a knob. It can be used to attenuate the effect of the control voltage on the time parameters.
Internal jumpers allow you to specify for each unit of the Doepfer A-142-2 Envelope Controlled VCA which parameters are to be controlled via the CVT input. Possible configurations include, for example, D only, A only, A+D, or A+D+R. This allows the module’s behavior to be adapted to the desired patch configuration.
The direction of the control can also be set via jumpers. This determines whether a rising control voltage increases or decreases the time. This internal configurability significantly expands the Doepfer A-142-2 Envelope Controlled VCA’s range of applications without requiring additional controls on the front panel.
Using an additional jumper, you can specify whether the gate signal from the bus board should be used to control the respective envelope. This option can be selected separately for each envelope generator. This allows the two units of the Doepfer A-142-2 Envelope Controlled VCA to be configured independently in this regard as well.
The output voltage of the envelopes ranges from 0 to 10V. Specifications regarding the times will follow shortly, as indicated. This voltage specification is particularly important if the envelope outputs are to be used to control other modules in the system.
