Description

Module A-198 is a trautonium manual / ribbon controller. An approx. 50 cm long linear displacement sensor is used as the controlling element, which is additionally equipped with a pressure-sensitive element.

Touching the displacement sensor with a finger generates a control voltage CV1, which is proportional to the position of the finger. The scale (i.e. to which displacement difference corresponds which voltage difference) is adjustable with a potentiometer on the front panel. The hold switch can be used to set whether the last CV is held or not (i.e. the voltage jumps to 0V) when the finger is removed. In the latter case a gate signal is additionally derived from the CV signal (e.g. for triggering an envelope generator) as soon as a finger touches the displacement sensor.

Below the displacement sensor there is a sensitive pressure sensor which generates another control voltage CV2 which increases with higher pressure. Again, the scale is adjustable with a potentiometer on the front panel. A second gate signal is generated when a certain pressure is exceeded. The threshold at which the gate signal is generated is adjustable with a knob on the front panel. The connection between module and displacement/pressure sensor is made via a 4-pin cable (as used for USB). The sensor is housed in a separate, silver-gray painted metal frame (dimensions: approx. 600 L x 30 W x 18 H, weight approx. 900 g).
