Are you looking for a compact expansion module that lets you integrate additional audio and CV outputs into your setup? The Elektron Outbox 8 is a versatile eight-channel audio/CV breakout box and USB host/device that expands compatible devices with eight fully configurable physical outputs.
With the Elektron Outbox 8, you can flexibly output audio and CV signals in various combinations, depending on the capabilities of the connected device. This creates a practical interface between Elektron workflows, DAW setups, modular systems, external equipment, mixers, and performance environments.
The Elektron Outbox 8 offers eight 6.35-mm outputs designed as impedance-balanced, DC-coupled audio/CV outputs. This allows audio signals to be output individually or the outputs to be used for CV tasks.
For audio applications, the Outbox 8 allows individual tracks to be routed for external processing, mixing, or performance. This makes it a flexible bridge between compatible Elektron devices and the wider world of sound, control, and external hardware.
A key feature of the Elektron Outbox 8 is the ability to configure outputs for CV tasks. It supports CV signal types such as Pitch, Gate, Trig, Linear Value, and Clock. This allows the unit to be used as a USB-MIDI-to-CV converter.
This feature allows you to play, sequence, modulate, and synchronize modular systems and other CV-capable instruments. A MIDI controller can also be integrated to play or control such instruments directly. In this way, the Outbox 8 combines the familiar operation of keys, controllers, and performance gestures with the flexibility of voltage-controlled sound generation.
The Elektron Outbox 8 can also be connected to a computer, tablet, or smartphone and used as a USB audio interface with eight outputs. This allows audio to be sent directly from the DAW to monitors, a mixer, or external hardware.
At the same time, MIDI can be sent from the DAW to the Outbox 8. The outputs can then be configured to output CV. This allows the computer to sequence modular devices, control analog synthesizers, or synchronize external devices.
With many Elektron devices, the Elektron Outbox 8 can be set up directly on the connected device. Connect, configure, and control: This keeps the workflow particularly straightforward.
For other devices, as well as for many USB-class-compliant devices not manufactured by Elektron, configuration can be performed via the Outbox 8 web app. Audio and MIDI compatibility may vary depending on the manufacturer and firmware. Many devices work with MIDI, some with audio, and some with both.
In addition to the eight audio/CV outputs, the Elektron Outbox 8 features two USB-C ports. One is used to connect to a device or computer; the other can be used as a power input if needed.
A status LED on the front panel provides information about the connection and configuration. This makes it easy to quickly see during setup whether the Outbox 8 is properly integrated and ready for use.
The Elektron Outbox 8 is a great choice for musicians, producers, live performers, and modular users who want to expand their setup with eight flexible audio and CV outputs. The unit is particularly appealing to anyone who wants to edit individual tracks externally, route audio signals from a DAW to multiple outputs, or convert MIDI to CV signals.
If you’re looking for a compact breakout box with class-compliant USB audio, DC-coupled outputs, CV functionality, USB-C connectivity, and flexible integration into Elektron or computer setups, the Elektron Outbox 8 offers a versatile and powerful solution.
