The two-channel stereo PMX-500 has the connections and features DJs need to lay down smooth mixes. This light, mobile unit is perfect for DJ or PA applications, or it can be used in home recording systems.
Connections abound on the rear panel. The PMX-500's master output jacks are used to connect to a main amplifier, while four record output jacks can be used to connect the mixer to a recording device. Inputs include two stereo phone/line inputs, one stereo phono input and one stereo line input. Phono/line switches make it possible to set the inputs to phono or line depending on the mixer's application. If you're planning on hooking up turntables to the PMX-500, keep in mind that the phono inputs will accept only turntables with a magnetic cartridge. There's also a ground screw on the rear panel for you to ground your turntables. The stereo line inputs will accept any line level input such as a CD player or a cassette player. A headphone jack is supplied on the front panel, as is a .25-inch microphone jack.
When it comes to operation, the PMX-500 has the ambitious DJ covered. Controls for channel one and two include gain, high, mid, and bass dials that allow full adjustability of the selected source. A selector switch selects either the phono or line inputs and a channel slide control for output levels is provided for both channels. The crossfader slider includes an RG-45 Pro RailGlide dual crossfader, which has internal dual stainless-steel rails that allow the slider to ride smoothly and accurately from end to end. The crossfader unit can be upgraded to the CF-45 Pro ProGlide DualRail crossfader, a highly durable, state-of-the-art crossfader with conductive plastic technology. You may also choose to upgrade to the PSF-45 ProScratch crossfader, which has a special curve designed for scratch mixing. The PMX-500A's crossfader reverse switch enables reversal of the crossfader so that channel two is controlled by the left side of the crossfader and channel one is controlled by the right side. Punch-in buttons for each channel make it possible to add a channel's signal to the mix when the crossfader is set to the opposite channel.
Other features include a talk-over function that allows a microphone input to be heard over the music and a cue section that lets DJs monitor an incoming signal before pushing it to live output.
