JHS Pedals Hard Drive Tan Distortion Product Details

Description

JHS Pedals Hard Drive Tan Distortion effect pedal

The JHS Pedals Hard Drive Tan Distortion effect pedal is the result of eight years of intensive development and at the same time the last project of former chief engineer Cliff Smith. With this pedal, JHS leaves the familiar paths of classic circuit topologies for the first time and presents a completely independent, modern distortion circuit. The aim was to capture the characteristic high-gain sound of the 90s and 2000s - the very sound that defined the post-grunge and alternative rock era.

Original design with sophisticated gain staging

The Hard Drive has a specially developed gain structure with cascaded gain stages and a hard limiting circuit. A class AB amplifier section provides additional punch, supported by a flexible tone control. The sweepable midrange EQ allows precise midrange adjustments, while a Baxandall EQ for bass and treble offers additional control over the sound.

Full control for modern high-gain sounds

With six generously dimensioned controls - Volume, Mid Freq, Drive, Bass, Middle and Treble - the pedal can be precisely tuned to any setup. Whether crunchy tube amp character or massive distortion wall: the Hard Drive delivers modern studio-quality distortion that effortlessly cuts through any mix. The buffered bypass with soft touch footswitch guarantees silent switching and reliable signal routing.

Robust, stage-ready and cleverly designed

The Hard Drive was designed for daily use on stage and in the studio. With a solid metal housing, clear status LED and silent footswitch, it meets all the requirements of modern musicians. It is connected via 6.3 mm mono jack sockets and powered by a 9V DC power supply unit (not included). Battery operation is not provided. Despite its complex circuitry, the pedal remains compact and pedalboard-friendly.
