3-way 8″ nearfield monitor with coaxial midrange/tweeter.
The new IN-8 2nd Wave features an updated amplifier module, allowing for 12 dB less self-noise while providing 3dB more output. Tuning has been refined for even smoother tweeter response, and the boundary EQs have been updated to allow for more practical settings. New here is the preset for lying speaker positioning. Other updates include lighter transducer diaphragms for faster transient response and improved cabinet design for less self-resonance.
As an evolution of the successful LP-8, the IN-8 2nd Wave features its sophisticated bass reflex system and the same high-level woofer. Instead of the usual tweeter with 3D imaging waveguides, however, a coaxial midrange-tweeter combination has been installed here. The profile-optimized 4″ midrange driver also functions as a waveguide. By limiting the peak excursion to 1 mm, intermodulation distortions that otherwise occur with coaxial systems could be avoided. The midrange driver also relieves the woofer and tweeter, so the IN-8 2nd Wave plays overall more harmonious and distortion-free than conventional 2-way studio monitors.
The crossover frequency of the woofer is 280 Hz, making the IN-8 2nd Wave an acoustic point source. Phase cancellations on the vertical axis will be looked for in vain. Instead, the IN-8 2nd Wave has a uniform radiation pattern over the entire frequency response with excellent depth and localization. The stereo image also benefits from the coaxial arrangement and allows for a detailed mix. Thanks to the "Boundary EQ" known from the LP series, the IN-8 2nd Wave can be adapted to different studio environments just as easily as its sister models.
