Ketron SD 40 Product Details

Description

KETRON SD40 is a new advanced arranger and player module designed specifically for use with Master Keyboards, Digital Pianos and MIDI Accordions. As an expander version of the highly successful KETRON SD7, the SD40 offers the same musical and technical features of the keyboard, with a new professional sound generation, an enormous audio drum library, styles of the best KETRON tradition together with style modeling, a particularly versatile player and modern multimedia capabilities. Thanks to its extremely compact design, the SD40 is ideal for the professional player traveling worldwide.

Styles:

The SD40 features an innovative professional arranger section with 260 styles and an impressive library of more than 300 Latin percussion grooves and 200 audio drums, all perfectly synchronized to the internal clock. The Arranger consists of 4 ABCD sections with 4 Fills, 4 Breaks, 3 Intros, 3 Endings, To End and other functions like Reintro, Key Start_Key Stop, Restart, Pause, Count In and 5 User Tabs for individualized functions. The accompaniment has Audio Drums, Bass, 5 Chords and 3 Orchestra VARIATIONS. The right section (Lead) can have 4 Lead voices automatically assigned and linked to the ABCD parts of each style. The SD40 features a particularly open arranger system that allows quick modification of the voices, volume and effects of each style, which can then be saved as a USER STYLE without affecting the factory library. MY LIST allows the user to combine and store their 64 favorite styles in one place, making searching for these styles extremely easy. Style MODELING is a sophisticated tool of the SD40, allowing hundreds of audio drums, grooves, bass lines, piano, guitar and orchestral tracks to be selected from the internal modeling library in no time. Creating new custom arrangements using only style modeling is an absolutely fantastic experience. Different musical genres can be extremely easily combined and contaminated with each other by simply swapping sounds and patterns, while maintaining rhythmic synchronization all the time.

Play Modes:

The SD40 is designed to be configured for use in different modes. If you are a piano player, you can play in PIANIST mode using the normal piano technique without giving up controlling the arranger on the side. If, on the other hand, you prefer to play a manual bass, the BASSIST mode is available to control the harmonies you play two-handed in real time. A new dedicated menu with two modes has been developed for the ACCORDION: CLASSIC : The accordion player can program the entire orchestration manually, with 2 voices for the left range (Chord) and 3 voices for the right keyboard range. The settings made can be saved in a registration that can be recalled on stage in a blink of an eye. STYLE : This mode is based on arranger control via the left hand. With the new Bass-To-Chord function, the accordion player can also define some chords not normally found in accordion technique, such as diminished sevenths, augmented sevenths, fourths and much more, which is especially interesting for light music and jazz.

Sounds:

The SD40 Sound Generation offers an enormous selection of orchestral voices with a stereo grand piano, new brass and sax sections, new guitars and basses using the multi-layer technique, plus the new pads, strings, accordions, synth, electric pianos and special effects. Also available is a rich selection of tonewheel organ sounds with a faithful reproduction of the classic slow-fast rotary effect. In addition, 49 DRUM KITS and over 300 LATIN Percussion GROOVES are offered, along with 368 Preset Voices divided into 12 families with a detailed editing menu, 2nd Voice, 3 Sound Layerings and User Voice possibilities. In the VOICE LIST you can save your most popular 32 voices.

Registrations:

The Registrations allow you to take snapshots of the settings on the control panel along with all the other momentary states of the SD40. There are 4 memory banks available, and each of these has room for 1024 Registrations. These registrations can be conveniently managed via the touch screen and recalled in no time via the numeric keypad or externally via MIDI. A special app is available to use the SD40's Registration settings to manage songs and lyrics from external data banks.

Player:

The SD40 has a professional player that can play MP3, MIDI (various formats with lyrics), WAV, FLV, CDG, MP4, AVI, M4A, JPG, TXT files. Functions such as Cross Fade, Lead Mute and both alphabetical and numerical search are available. LYRICS, TEXT and KARAOKE can be visualized in a modern way on the display of the device or on an external monitor ( DVI ), together with movies, video clips or graphic files in PDF format, such as music scores. MY FOLDER allows creating custom PLAYLISTS and quick access to favorites and most used files. Also the JUKE BOX environment allows quick access to songs, along with the new RESTYLE function that allows the drum track of a MIDI file to be replaced with the internal audio drums. Another important feature of the SD40 player is the AUDIO MULTITRACK function, which allows to play the multiple wave files taken from an audio project. The volumes of the 6 tracks can be individually controlled via the pots on the control panel, and there is also the possibility to forward the Click Metronome to the outside via the headphone output (Aux).

Recording:

The SD40 features an audio and MIDI recording menu. Short patterns can be recorded and looped in phrase mode (even while using the arranger), or complete sequences in SONG mode. The audio track is recorded as stereo WAV, and the volume and start/end of the sample can be changed.

DSP/MICRO/INPUT:

The DSP section includes chorus, reverb, phaser, tremolo, flanger, rotor, echo delay, tap delay, overdrive, distortion, amp simulator, compressor, a 4-band parametric EQ, and two EFX inserts with 54 different types of effects and 10 programmable insert chains. The SD40 has a balanced microphone input (XLR) and a 3-voice vocalizer that can be assigned to the arranger, lead voice or midi file. "lnput" can be used as input for the second microphone or for a guitar. The guitar can be processed with all internal DSP effects, which in turn can be controlled by footswitches (KETRON FS 13 or FS 6). With a midi guitar, it is also possible to control the arranger by simply playing the chords on the instrument.

Multimedia/User Interface:

The multimedia features of the SD40 include 3 USB hosts, 1 USB device (to manage the instrument directly from the computer), and an SD card port. The touch screen interface of this instrument is extremely intuitive, and it is very easy to surf between the different menus, even without consulting the user manual (which is available as a multilingual html file in the module). Brightness control can be used to adjust the brightness of the display, which is especially important in dark environments.
