Bassists looking for more than just a good basic sound will find it hard to ignore the Laney Nathan East BCC-DB EAST PRE bass preamp pedal. Developed in close collaboration with bass legend Nathan East, this signature pedal combines the sonic versatility of modern signal processing with a classic analog feel. Whether electric bass, acoustic bass or both at the same time - the DB-EAST is the creative center for every stage and every recording.
The Black Country Customs series from Laney stands for the highest quality, sound fidelity and innovative features. Handcrafted in Birmingham, England, effects devices are created here that make the everyday lives of professional musicians easier and more enjoyable. Nothing was left to chance with the DB-EAST: Nathan East's many years of experience - as a studio and live bassist for greats such as Eric Clapton, Daft Punk and Toto - flowed directly into the design of this preamp. The result is a pedal that is well thought-out, practical and absolutely suitable for the stage.
The Laney DB-EAST is a hybrid preamp that offers two independent channels: a tube-inspired "tube" channel and a FET channel. Both can be operated separately or simultaneously to deliver a wide range of tonal colors - from clean and dynamic to warm and saturated. The tube channel offers three selectable tube drive voicings, which subtly color or clearly warm up depending on the playing style. The FET channel provides assertiveness, clarity and punch.
Particularly practical: the pedal has two separate inputs - ideal for musicians like Nathan East who frequently switch between electric bass and acoustic bass or use both in parallel. This saves you having to use external splitters or switches.
A comprehensive 4-band EQ consisting of bass, lo mid, hi mid and treble is available for shaping the sound. The mid ranges can be adjusted in three characteristics using a mid pre-shape switch, which makes fine-tuning in the mix much easier. The Tilt control, already familiar from the Laney Digbeth preamp, enables a stepless balance between treble and bass emphasis - perfect for quickly adjusting the basic character on stage.
With the Master, Volume, Drive, Range, FET Volume controls and the EQs mentioned above, you can control both the dynamics and the overtone spectrum in a targeted manner - whether in a mono setup or in more complex signal paths.
A real highlight is the extensive routing option of the Laney DB-EAST. In addition to the normal jack output, the pedal offers an XLR DI output with three selectable operating modes:
Particularly practical: The IR section also supports the loading of external impulse responses (third-party IRs) - so you can customize your sound and simulate any cabinets. This transforms the pedal into a fully-fledged DI and recording solution.
You can transfer the signal directly to a DAW or a mobile recording system via the USB-C audio interface - without the need for an additional interface. An AUX input and a headphone output also make the pedal the perfect practice device. Play along to backing tracks or practice quietly - with exactly the same sound that you will use live later.
The Laney DB-EAST is much more than a simple bass preamp. It is a flexible sound center that effortlessly combines studio and live requirements. The combination of two channels (tube & FET), flexible EQ section, tilt feature and impulse response function make it one of the most versatile preamp pedals on the market.
Particularly noteworthy is the ability to switch between acoustic and electric bass or to use both in parallel - without any switching or additional hardware. For professional applications, the pre/post/IR DI output offers maximum control over the output signal. And for home recording, the USB audio interface saves on additional equipment - plug & play in studio quality.
With a robust housing, tidy layout and British manufacturing quality, the Laney Nathan East DB-EAST is the ideal choice for demanding bassists who want to have uncompromising control over their sound.
