Neumann Monitor Alignment Kit 1 Product Details

Description

The digital expert for professional monitoring quality

Neumann's Automatic Monitor Alignment MA 1 provides the best possible sound quality in any room - from home studios to professional sound control rooms. With the aid of the individually calibrated measuring microphone, the acoustic environment is analyzed in easy-to-follow steps. Calibration algorithms developed together with the world's leading institute for audio signal processing, Fraunhofer IIS, guarantee optimally adjusted amplitude and phase correction for accurate and reliable monitoring.

Neumann's Automatic Monitor Alignment is a dedicated application for stereo sets with DSP-based KH-Line monitors, with or without the KH 750 DSP/AES67 subwoofer, or two non-DSP-based KH-Line monitors driven by the analog outputs of the KH 750 DSP/AES67. Unlike common correction software, this is an integrated solution with novel calibration algorithms developed together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) specifically for Neumann studio monitors. Neither a plug-in nor a special audio driver is required: The alignment data is stored and processed in the DSP monitors or the subwoofer. A special advantage is that not only the amplitude frequency response is optimized, but also the phase. This means maximum accuracy in terms of tonality, impulse reproduction and stereo localization.

How it works

In a first step, the acoustic data of the listening environment is collected. No specialist acoustic knowledge is required for this. All that is required is that the Neumann monitors be connected to an audio interface or to a monitor controller. In addition, the DSP-based KH Line monitors require an Ethernet connection to the computer. For multiple connections, a standard Ethernet switch is sufficient.

Now the MA 1 measurement microphone is connected to the microphone input. This measurement microphone was specially developed for this software and is individually calibrated by it. The software guides the user through the measurement procedure.

Based on the measured data, the software records the acoustic properties of the room. Based on a room-specific target curve calculated by the software, the individual correction parameters are generated. Neumann's decades of experience in the calibration of monitor systems in studios has been incorporated in this process. Of course, this target curve can be modified as required.

An improved monitor alignment algorithm compensates for room modes even more precisely and effectively. Different alignments as well as complete hardware and measurement setups can be conveniently saved and recalled.

The alignment also ensures optimal summation of low frequencies when using a subwoofer. This achieves a runtime- and phase-correct combination of monitor and subwoofer. The often differentiated perceptible reproduction of subwoofer and monitor is thus eliminated. The result is a system as if cast from a single mold.

All resulting correction parameters are stored and processed in the DSP-based monitors. So there is nothing to worry about now, no plug-ins, no driver problems, and no extra cables: once the calibration is finished, the Ethernet connections are no longer needed.
