The Octave Kitten comes from the late 1970s, even before Octave Electronics plateau Electronics merged with the company, which later became Voyetra and later still Voyetra Turtle Beach, Inc. The most famous products were Octave The CAT, CAT SRM Catstick and Voyetra-8 synthesizer.

The kitten is a "stripped down" version of the CAT and yet very versatile. The 37-key synthesizer features in a compact, desk-like housing while only one oscillator, but also two sub oscillators, which are one or two octaves lower.
There are five mixable waveforms including the two sub-OSC is available, as well as sample & hold and an LFO with triangle waveform and delay. In addition, an independent noise generator and a ADSR envelope generator for volume and filter cutoff on board. Using the LFO effects such as vibrato or wah can be generated and there is a separate glide effect, similar to a portamento.

As a filter, a 24dB/oct. Low-pass filter used, which leads to a VCA. As keyboard playing aids include a Pitchbendhebel and Octave Shift available. All connections are located at the back with two audio outputs (high and low), two footswitch inputs for VCF and VCO and a pedal switch input for Glide, an audio input, as well as Series Patch Connections "Slave To" and "From Master".
