It has been more than fifty years since Charles Kaman brought his idea of a modern guitar to the world market.

Back then, as an ambitious guitarist, he realized his dreams and founded his own guitar company of a somewhat different kind, Ovation Guitars. On the one hand, he was inspired by traditional standards, but on the other hand, he was also equipped with a pronounced openness to new technologies, which he owed to his roots as a developer and manufacturer of helicopters. As a result, Kaman approached guitar construction in a way that polarizes to this day. A special fiber-plastic composite (Lyrachord®) combined with a parabolic body shape (Roundback®) were the ingredients for a completely new sound experience in the already crowded acoustic guitar market.

The ultimate breakthrough was made possible by the electro-acoustic version of the Ovation guitar.

Again, Kaman's experience in the aerospace industry led the way in a development that resulted in the first piezoelectric pickup. This enabled acoustic guitarists to maintain their presence even in full band arrangements, or soloists to perform at large open-air events without sacrificing sound quality.

This unique sound, coupled with the playing comfort of an electric guitar, still makes the Ovation a must-have for guitarists in clubs and stadiums alike.
