With his idea of a modern guitar, Charles Kaman conquered the world market more than fifty years ago.

At that time, he realized his dreams as an ambitious guitarist and launched his own guitar company of a somewhat different kind, Ovation Guitars. On the one hand, he was inspired by traditional standards, but on the other hand, he was also equipped with a pronounced openness to new technologies, which he owed to his roots as a developer and manufacturer of helicopters. He dared to approach guitar making in a way that polarizes to this day. The combination of a special fiber-plastic composite (Lyrachord®) and a parabolic body shape (Roundback®) were the ingredients for a completely new sound experience in the then already crowded acoustic guitar market.

The final breakthrough was made possible by the electro-acoustic version of the Ovation guitar.

Again, Kaman's experience in the aerospace industry led the way for a development that resulted in the first piezoelectric pickup. This allowed acoustic guitarists to maintain their presence in full band arrangements, or soloists to perform at large open-air events without sacrificing sound quality.

This unique sound, coupled with the playing comfort of an electric guitar, continues to make the Ovation a must-have for guitarists in clubs and stadiums alike.
