The SOMA Laboratory Lyra-8 is an extraordinary analog drone synthesizer that offers sound artists and experimental musicians a universe of possibilities. In the limited special edition in bright orange, the Lyra-8 is not only visually captivating, but above all with its sonic versatility and innovative operation. Developed for live performances and creative experiments, the Lyra-8 has an intuitive structure that encourages playing and discovering new worlds of sound. With its eight freely tunable oscillators and a unique blend of FM modulation, hyper LFOs and cross-modulating delay lines, this instrument offers an almost infinite palette of sounds - from spherical drones to intense noise thunderstorms.
SOMA Laboratory is known for synthesizers that are characterized by experimental concepts and unusual control elements. The Lyra-8 is a perfect example of SOMA's philosophy of creating innovative and intuitive instruments that inspire musicians to interact and use them creatively. This instrument is less of a classic synthesizer and more of an expressive tool specifically designed to create sound textures and deep atmospheric drones. With the Lyra-8, SOMA Laboratory takes synthesis to a new level, perfect for experimental music, sound design and cinematic soundscapes.
The Lyra-8 is equipped with eight freely tunable oscillators grouped into four pairs of voices. Each pair can either be played independently or combined into a complex FM modulation. The oscillators offer a mix of triangle and square waveforms, making it possible to create soft and harmonic sounds as well as harsh and extreme tones. Flexible voice control allows each voice to be adjusted over a wide frequency range, giving deep control over the resulting sound.
Each of the four oscillator pairs has its own AD envelope, which can be switched between slow and fast response times. This allows precise adjustment of the attack and sound development of each voice, which underlines the organic character of the synthesizer. The integrated Hyper LFO function, a logical combination of two LFOs, enables vibrato and delay modulation for even more creative control and dynamic sound development. Each oscillator pair can be linked to the Hyper LFO unit via toggle switches and attenuators, allowing for a wide range of modulations.
Another outstanding feature of the Lyra-8 is the modulatable delay, which works with two delay lines that cross-modulate each other. These delay lines can be set to self-oscillate, creating particularly powerful and organic effects. The delay can also be modulated via the LFO, resulting in complex and atmospheric sounds. The drive stage offers an additional way of enriching the sound. Equipped with a wet/dry control, the overdrive can be switched on continuously, so that the sound can take on a warm to extremely distorted character if required.
The modular concept of the Lyra-8 is enhanced by numerous CV inputs for external modulation sources. Musicians can use the CV delay and CV voices inputs to combine the synthesizer with other modulation sources and thus create even more complex soundscapes. The switchable feedback circuit also enables additional sound layering, which gives the sound more depth and an additional layer.
The Lyra-8 is controlled via eight metallic touch surfaces, which function as touch-sensitive "keys" for each oscillator pair. This innovative way of playing allows the musician to influence the intensity and modulation through direct contact. The pressure- and touch-sensitive playing promotes a close connection between musician and instrument and makes it possible to create expressive sounds and complex sound textures that would be difficult to realize with classical keyboard instruments. The touch surfaces turn the Lyra-8 into a synthesizer that can be played intuitively and experienced directly.
The SOMA Laboratory Lyra-8 Orange is a synthesizer aimed at musicians who are looking for a unique and expressive instrument. With its eight oscillators, flexible FM modulation, versatile delay and overdrive effects and intuitive touch control, the Lyra-8 opens up a new dimension of sound creation. The limited special edition in orange also makes this instrument a special eye-catcher in any studio or live performance. Whether for atmospheric drones, ambient soundscapes or experimental noise sessions - the Lyra-8 is the perfect tool for creative minds and sound researchers.
