Are you looking for a powerful delay pedal that combines classic echo sounds, modern sonic experiments, reverb, looper functions, and professional control options all in a single unit? The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation was developed as the next generation of the TimeLine series and delivers studio-quality delays in an elegant, intuitive, and stage-ready design. Every sound is tuned to respond musically to your playing, while the controls provide a direct and intuitive feel.
The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation is designed for musicians who are looking for more than just a standard delay pedal. From classic echoes with vintage character to modern, expansive soundscapes, this pedal offers a wide range of inspiring possibilities. The workstation combines 12 high-quality delay engines, two simultaneously usable effects, a new reverb algorithm, a five-minute stereo looper, extensive MIDI control, and flexible inputs and outputs.
The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation is described as an exceptionally powerful delay pedal, offering numerous professional features in a compact unit. The design is clearly focused on sound quality, flexibility, and intuitive operation. The sounds have been carefully tuned to respond dynamically and musically to the player’s performance. This makes the pedal suitable for both classic delay applications and experimental sound design ideas.
At its core is powerful signal processing driven by an 800 MHz tri-core ARM processor. This processing power is fully dedicated to delay and reverb sounds. This allows even subtle sonic nuances to be reproduced, including electromechanical irregularities, analog circuit characteristics of classic digital technologies, and richly detailed modulations.
The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation offers new engines such as Oil Can, Spectral, Drum, Reverb, and Multitap, as well as significant enhancements to the classic TimeLine delay engines. The delay engines include dTape, dBucket, Digital, Drum, Oil Can, Multitap, Spectral, Reverse, Ice, Lo Fi, and Filter. Additionally, a new reverb algorithm is integrated, allowing the workstation to be used as both a delay and reverb pedal in one.
Particularly versatile is the ability to use two engines simultaneously. These dual delays can be routed in series, in parallel, or in split mode. Furthermore, the engines can be positioned individually within the stereo image. This creates complex soundscapes, rhythmic structures, and combinations of delay and reverb within a single preset. While editing, you can switch between the delay engines with the press of a button, while the current routing status is clearly shown on the display.
The new reverb algorithm offers sound spaces ranging from small rooms to expansive ambient spaces with long tails. Additionally, you can adjust the “Grit” parameter to generate saturated and overdriven harmonics before and after the reverb tank. Inspired by the Flint pedal, this reverb also offers optional tremolo on the wet signal with adjustable speed and depth.
The Spectral Delay is a unique take on a granular delay. It slices the signal into fragments and can apply pitch, reverse, time-stretch, or filter effects. This creates glitch-like patterns, fascinating panoramas, and experimental textures. The Multitap Delay offers eight taps with individual control over panning, level, feedback, filter type, and cutoff frequency. It’s ideal for complex rhythms, spatial sound patterns, and rhythmically dense delay structures.
dTape Delay is dedicated to the sound of classic tape echo units with a movable tape head. The sound can be shaped using parameters such as bass content, wow and flutter, tape creak, and other settings. dBucket Delay offers the authentic experience of classic analog bucket-brigade delays with warm repeats and pleasant signal modulation. Digital Delay includes several rack delay voicings from the 1980s and today, including 24/94, ADM, 12-bit, and Classic.
Drum Delay emulates the mechanical irregularities of old drum echo units, including warble and soft-clip textures. Oil Can Delay delivers darker, murkier, and less predictable results with warped-sounding repeats and syrupy modulations. Reverse Delay plays back phrases in reverse and is synchronized with the performance and tempo. Ice Delay splits the input signal and returns it with a selectable interval shift ranging from one octave down to two octaves up.
Lo Fi Delay enables creative signal distortion with bitcrushing and sample-rate reduction. It features handcrafted filters such as transistor radio and telephone characterizations, as well as a dVINYL algorithm for realistic vinyl effects. Filter Delay combines synchronized tremolo with dynamic filtering, opening up shape-shifting sonic possibilities with various LFO waveforms and filter parameters.
The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation features a built-in stereo looper with five minutes of recording time. Both multi-button and single-button looper modes are available. The looper can be placed before or after the delay effects. In single-button mode, it can be used spontaneously without having to switch to looper mode. Additionally, looper functions such as Reverse, Redo, and Half Speed can be used without entering looper mode.
For professional setups, the pedal offers comprehensive MIDI control via USB-C, TRS, or DIN. You can switch presets and control parameters. The EXP input allows you to connect an optional TRS expression pedal, MultiSwitch, MultiSwitch Plus, or a TRS MIDI connection. The USB-C port is used for firmware updates, MIDI input and output, and connection to the Strymon Nixie 2 Editor software.
All jacks are TRS stereo. This allows for various input and output configurations, including normal operation, mono or stereo effects loop, Wet/Dry, and Wet/Dry/Wet. In addition, the Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation features a stereo input and stereo output, as well as a stereo send and stereo return. A dedicated tap-tempo footswitch is used to set the delay time and access the one-button looper.
Audio quality is enhanced by high-quality analog circuitry, a discrete JFET input preamp, and a low-impedance output stage. The dry signal path remains analog and provides a latency-free dry signal that is not digitally converted. For bypass, True Bypass with an electromechanical relay circuit or selectable Buffered Bypass is available.
The Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation is recommended for anyone looking for a versatile, powerful, and professionally controllable delay pedal. The combination of 12 delay engines, built-in reverb, two simultaneously usable effects, a stereo looper, extensive MIDI control, and flexible routing options makes the pedal a comprehensive sound hub for the stage, studio, and creative sound design.
If you want to use classic tape and bucket-brigade sounds, modern granular effects, complex multitap rhythms, reverb pads, and flexible stereo routing all in one unit, the Strymon TimeLine MX Multi-Delay Workstation is a strong choice. With an OLED display, tap tempo, professional connections, an analog dry path, and 32-bit floating-point processing, it provides a comprehensive foundation for inspiring delay and reverb sounds.
