Frequently asked questions
| Question: | Which musicians and applications is the Basix 16x16 Surdo suitable for? |
| Answer: | The surdo is suitable for samba groups, carnival parades, marching ensembles and street performances. Its compact format makes it an interesting choice for beginners as well as experienced percussionists looking for a manageable bass drum for rehearsals and live performances. |
| Question: | What tonal character does the Basix Surdo provide? |
| Answer: | The six-ply wooden shell supports a deep, full and resonant bass tone. This allows the drum to provide the rhythmic foundation of a samba or percussion group while remaining clearly audible within a larger ensemble. |
| Question: | What are the dimensions of the drum? |
| Answer: | The surdo measures 16 inches in diameter and 16 inches in height. This comparatively compact format makes transportation easier and is particularly practical for musicians carrying the drum during parades or mobile performances. |
| Question: | Can the drumhead tension be adjusted? |
| Answer: | Yes. The drum has six tension rods that allow the head tension to be adjusted. For an even tuning result, the rods should be tightened gradually and uniformly. The pitch can therefore be adapted to the ensemble and the preferred playing style. |
| Question: | Which accessories are included? |
| Answer: | A white carrying strap is included, allowing the surdo to be played while standing or moving in a parade. A mallet, carrying bag and additional accessories are not explicitly listed as included and may need to be obtained separately. |
