Nova's 5A sticks are considered the absolute standard for all styles and are a great starting point if you are looking to find your "own stick". They are not too long, not too heavy, medium strong and very durable, as American Hickory wood is not prone to splintering or chipping, but slowly fatigues after a long playing session and then cracks cleanly as well as safely (for kit and player).

The splinter resistance, elasticity and relatively light base weight of hickory wood ensures that skins, cymbals and even tension rings are all spared, especially when compared to using particularly hard sticks such as oak or even carbon.
