If an electric guitarist wanted to play acoustically on stage in the 1980s, there was only a limited range of options that really worked. In 1987, Yamaha finally introduced the first acoustic guitar that could simply be taken out of a guitar stand, plugged in and played loudly - without howling feedback, microphone shifting or the dreaded extra-long sound check.

However, the APX series didn't just focus on the sound, but on every single detail that could make it easier for an electric guitarist to quickly switch to an acoustic guitar - from stylish finishes to the cutaway body to the thin electric guitar-style neck.

The combination of acoustic sound and pickup forms the sonic heart of every electro-acoustic guitar. The latest APX600 features an SRT piezo pickup - the same pickup responsible for the dynamic range, natural and mix-friendly sound and feedback resistance of the popular A-Series. Crafted by Yamaha's Audio and Video department, Yamaha's legendary preamp is another key feature of the APX series and the basis of the sound quality you expect from Yamaha.
