Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural Electric Bass Guitar

Are you looking for an electric bass guitar that combines a striking look, comfortable playability, and classic features in one attractive package? Then the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural Electric Bass Guitar is a model that immediately catches your eye. The product description alone highlights that this 4-string electric bass not only impresses with Yamaha’s renowned quality but also stands out visually thanks to its exotic wood laminated top made of mango. The grain of the laminated top, in particular, is explicitly described as a real eye-catcher. At the same time, the instrument features the typical ergonomic TRBX shaping, which means the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar not only stands out visually but is also designed for comfortable playing.

Construction and Materials

The Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar is listed as having a mahogany body and a laminated exotic wood top made of mango. At the same time, the product description mentions a body made of solid alder. Both of these differing specifications are included in the available product information. The neck is made of maple, the neck joint is bolt-on, and the neck finish is matte. The fingerboard is made of rosewood and features 24 medium frets. It also has dot inlays to mark the frets. The fingerboard radius is 10 inches or 254 mm. The scale length is specified as long scale at 34 inches or 864 mm. This is complemented by a nut width of 40 mm and a urea nut. Overall, the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar thus offers a clearly defined technical foundation with classic and practical features.

Playability and Ergonomics

A key focus of the description is on ergonomics. The typical TRBX body shape is explicitly described as extremely ergonomic. Thanks to the generous cutaways, comfortable playability is said to be possible all the way up to the highest registers of the bolt-on maple neck. The rosewood fingerboard with 24 medium frets and dot inlays also supports this clear focus on practical playability. The Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar is thus described as an instrument that combines comfortable handling with good orientation on the fretboard. This focus is particularly appealing to players who value an uncomplicated and comfortable playing experience.

Pickups and Electronics

For pickup configuration, the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar relies on a classic combination of ceramic split-coil and ceramic single-coil pickups. The features list specifies a ceramic split-coil pickup in the middle and a ceramic single-coil pickup at the bridge, while the product description refers to a split-coil pickup at the neck and a single-coil pickup at the bridge. I am also adopting these specifications in accordance with the available product data. The electronics are passive. Two volume controls and one master tone control are available for adjustment. According to the description, the pickups can be continuously blended using the individual volume controls, while the tone control allows you to adjust the treble content of the signal. As a result, the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar offers a clearly structured and classically designed control layout.

Hardware and Design

The hardware of the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar is also clearly described. It features a vintage-style hardtail bridge—specifically, a solid bridge in vintage style. It also includes sealed tuners, which are listed as “Sealed” in the features. The hardware is chrome-plated, and strap pins are included as standard. There is no tailpiece. The color is listed as “Translucent Natural,” and the finish is high-gloss. Combined with the mango top, this results in an instrument that derives its visual appeal from the wood grain and the translucent finish. This is precisely what gives the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar its unique and instantly recognizable character.

Recommended Purchase

The Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar is an interesting choice for anyone looking for a 4-string electric bass with an ergonomic design, a classic pickup combination, and a striking wood finish. The combination of a bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 24 medium frets, passive electronics, and ceramic split-coil or ceramic single-coil pickups results in an instrument with a clearly recognizable profile. Add to that a vintage-style bridge, sealed tuners, chrome hardware, and the striking Translucent Natural finish. If you’re looking for an electric bass guitar that combines comfortable playability, a classic control layout, and a visually distinctive top in a single instrument, then the Yamaha TRBX 174 EW Natural electric bass guitar is a very interesting option.
