MEINL Sonic Energy 22" Chau Tam Tam Yin & Yang

MEINL Sonic Energy CHYY22 – 22" Chau Tam Tam Yin & Yang Gong

The MEINL Sonic Energy CHYY22 is a 22-inch Chau Tam Tam gong with an engraved Yin & Yang symbol, traditionally crafted in China. Equipped with a matched mallet and a matching gong case, this musical instrument is a powerful tool for meditation, sound therapy, yoga, stage performance, and spiritual rituals.

The gong combines authentic craftsmanship with deep symbolic meaning. Its tonal range extends from a gentle, meditative hum to a menacing, deep rumble. Thanks to its curved rim and special bronze alloy, the CHYY22 produces a rich, powerful sound that blends exceptionally well with other musical instruments such as singing bowls, frame drums, or gongs.

Handcrafted quality from China

The CHYY22 is crafted in China by experienced gong smiths according to centuries-old tradition. Every step—from shaping to hammering to engraving—is done entirely by hand. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece with its own unique timbre and distinctive appearance. The characteristic outwardly curved rim (Chau shape) ensures even vibration distribution and great sonic expressiveness.

Thanks to the special bronze alloy, the gong possesses excellent resonance with a clear fundamental tone and a long sustain—perfect for deep relaxation, breathwork, and energetic space clearing.

Yin & Yang – Symbol of Harmony and Unity

Engraved at the center of the CHYY22 is the famous Yin-Yang symbol—an expression of the Taoist teaching on the balance of opposites. Yin (the still, passive) and Yang (the active, dynamic) represent two forces that do not contradict each other, but rather complement one another. The gong embodies this symbolism both visually and acoustically: From quiet, floating tones to dynamic sound waves, a contemplative sound spectrum unfolds.

Quote from Alfred Forke: “The primordial principle moves and generates Yang. When the movement reaches its end, it becomes still, and this stillness generates Yin.” – a perfect description of the experience of playing this gong.

Versatile use in therapy, music, and spirituality

Thanks to its size of 22 inches (55 cm), the gong is portable enough for mobile use, yet powerful and assertive in tone. Whether in one-on-one sessions, group meditations, or on stage—the CHYY22 fulfills a wide range of purposes:

• Relaxation and sound massages
• Yoga sessions and sound baths
• Meditation and energy work
• Live performances and ceremonies

It can be played with soft, circular movements or powerful strokes, and the included mallet is perfectly matched to the weight and surface area of the gong. The included gong cover protects the instrument during transport and storage.
