Saxophones

The saxophone is a comparatively young wind instrument that counts to the woodwind instruments despite its metal corpus. This relates to the tone production of the saxophone that works through blowing a swinging wooden reed. The saxophone was invented by the Belgian Adolphe Sax in 1840. He originally designed it as woodwind instrument for lower voices in classical or military orchestras.

Instead the saxophone had its triumphal procession as solo instrument in jazz music, where it is highly appreciated through its dynamic possibilities and its gamut. Popular musicians like John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter or Klaus Doldinger wrote music history with it and showed that it is an all-purpose instrument.

Today the saxophone belongs to many different music styles from classical orchestra music to pop and some music types like the twist are even unthinkable without the typical belling sound.
