Manufacturer

For many decades, Yamaha has been one of the leading manufacturers of musical instruments. The brand stands for reliable quality, precise craftsmanship, and practical, user-oriented design. When it comes to guitars in particular, Yamaha has repeatedly demonstrated that professional gear doesn’t have to be complicated. The Pacifica series is a prime example of this: it was developed to provide guitarists with a versatile, comfortable, and sonically flexible instrument.

Since its inception, the Pacifica line has been known for its musical versatility. Rather than limiting itself to a single style, it was designed for players who need a wide range of sounds and want to switch quickly between different musical tasks. The Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar carries on this very concept at an exceptionally high level. It offers modern features, well-thought-out ergonomics, and components tailored for professional use.

With the Professional Series, Yamaha caters to discerning musicians who are looking for a reliable instrument with a wide sonic range. The focus is on playing comfort, tuning stability, resonance, and flexible sound shaping. The combination of an alder body, maple neck, maple fingerboard, Reflectone pickups, Gotoh hardware, and high-quality stainless steel frets shows that this model is not just intended for occasional playing. Rather, the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar is an instrument designed for ambitious and professional use.

Technical Details

The Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar features an alder body. This tonewood is very popular in electric guitars because it delivers a balanced fundamental tone. Alder offers clear highs, prominent mids, and controlled lows. As a result, the sound is defined, lively, and versatile. This balanced character is a major advantage, especially in a modern HSS guitar, because it effectively supports both single-coil and humbucker tones.

The bolt-on neck is made of maple and contributes significantly to the instrument’s direct response. A bolt-on neck construction is often prized for its clear attack, precise tone articulation, and percussive character. The maple neck complements the alder body with additional definition and clarity. As a result, the guitar responds very immediately to your playing dynamics and is ideal for players who value control and expression.

The neck finish is Custom Tinted Satin Polyurethane. This surface feels pleasantly smooth and facilitates quick position changes on the fretboard. A non-sticky neck with a good grip is a real advantage, especially during longer sessions. You can concentrate better on your playing because your hand glides freely and naturally across the neck. This is particularly comfortable for both rhythm playing and solo passages.

The fretboard of the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar is also made of maple. Maple fretboards are known for their clear response, direct tone, and crisp articulation. This results in a brilliant, defined tonal character that really comes into its own with clean tones, fast runs, and percussive playing. Combined with the alder body, it creates a balanced tone with good projection.

An important detail is the compound fretboard radius, which ranges from 254 mm to 356 mm (10" to 14"). In the lower register, the fretboard is slightly rounder, which supports comfortable chord playing. In the higher registers, it becomes flatter, making bends, fast lines, and solo techniques easier to execute. This modern fretboard geometry makes the guitar particularly versatile. It’s suitable for classic chord work as well as modern lead techniques.

The scale length is 648 mm (25.5"). This scale length ensures tight, defined string tension and clear tone projection. It supports precise rhythm playing, clean intonation, and articulate single notes. The nut width of 42 mm offers a pleasant balance between comfortable fingering and ample space for clean playing technique. As a result, the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar feels very natural for both chord playing and solos.

The instrument is equipped with 22 medium stainless steel frets. Stainless steel frets are particularly durable and resilient. They wear down significantly more slowly and offer a very smooth playing feel, especially during bends and vibrato. For guitarists who play, practice, or perform regularly, this is a significant advantage. The frets help ensure that the guitar remains reliable and precise even with intensive use.

The pickup configuration is a key factor in the versatility of the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar. A Reflectone HS7n single-coil pickup is mounted at the neck, another Reflectone HS7n single-coil in the middle position, and a Reflectone HH7b humbucker at the bridge. This HSS configuration combines classic transparency with modern punch. The single-coil pickups deliver clear, open, and dynamic sounds, while the humbucker at the bridge provides more punch, richness, and power.

The 5-position lever switch lets you quickly switch between different tones. This gives you access to classic single-coil tones, middle positions, and powerful bridge sounds. The master volume control allows for direct control of the output level, while the master tone control also features a push-pull coil-split function. This allows you to transform the bridge humbucker into a leaner, single-coil-like sound. This significantly expands the tonal possibilities and makes the guitar a versatile tool for a wide variety of musical styles.

The hardware is from Gotoh and underscores the professional quality of this model. The Gotoh 510T FE-1 bridge offers a reliable tremolo system with smooth operation. This allows for the musical use of subtle vibrato effects, shimmering chords, and expressive pitch modulations. In combination with the Gotoh locking tuners, this ensures excellent tuning stability. At the same time, locking tuners make changing strings easier because the strings are securely locked in place.

The string spacing is 10.8 mm, providing a comfortable action for precise picking, chord playing, and soloing. The original string set, featuring D’Addario XL-120 strings in gauges 0.009 to 0.042, ensures a smooth playing feel. Bends and fast runs can be executed comfortably, while the tone remains clear and defined. This setup complements the guitar’s modern character perfectly.

The 3-ply Shell White pickguard complements the high-gloss Black Metallic finish very effectively. The dark, metallic finish gives the guitar a sophisticated depth, while the light-colored pickguard provides a classic contrast. As a result, the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar looks modern, high-quality, and timeless all at once. The package includes a hardshell case, which ensures safe transport and secure storage.

Purchase Recommendation

The Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar is recommended for guitarists looking for a professional instrument with a wide range of tones. It’s particularly appealing if you want to cover a variety of musical styles with a single guitar. Thanks to the HSS pickup configuration, 5-position switch, and push-pull coil split, you get a wide range of sounds without having to switch between multiple instruments.

For live musicians, this model offers many practical advantages. The Gotoh locking tuners ensure stable tuning, the Gotoh 510T FE-1 bridge enables musical tremolo effects, and the high-quality construction guarantees reliable performance. The hardshell case is also a definite plus if the guitar needs to be transported regularly.

In the studio, the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar impresses with its tonal versatility. The Reflectone single-coil pickups deliver transparent clean tones and articulate rhythm parts, while the humbucker at the bridge enables powerful rock and lead tones. The coil-split function allows for additional tonal variations that blend well into various arrangements.

Playability is another major strength of this instrument. The satin-finished maple neck, the maple fingerboard with a compound radius, the 22 medium stainless steel frets, and the 25.5" scale length combine to create a modern, comfortable playing experience. The guitar supports precise chord playing as well as fast solo lines, expressive bends, and dynamic rhythm playing. Anyone looking for an instrument that not only sounds high-quality but is also comfortable to play over the long term will quickly come to appreciate this Pacifica.

If you’re looking for a versatile, modern, and visually striking electric guitar with professional-grade features, the Yamaha Pacifica Professional R Black Metallic electric guitar comes highly recommended. It combines high-quality materials, flexible electronics, reliable hardware, and an elegant black metallic finish into an instrument that appeals to both ambitious players and experienced professionals.
