DBX 166XS Compressor

The DBX 166 XS is easy to use and is used to compensate for level differences, to sustain extension for basses and guitars to make the drums or fat to keep unruly singers in check. The additional peak stop limiter is also more than Lausprecherschutz. The inputs and outputs are on XLR and TRS connectors each symmetrical. The relative levels can be switched between-10dBV UDN +4 dBu. A side-chain insert allows insertion of EQ and filters in the control loop of the VCA. It achieves a compression rate selected. The side-chain-channel is activated by means of the front side chain Enable. The parameters for Expander / gates are Threshold and Release, the attack times make a program-dependent. Two LEDs indicate the status of each set below or above the threshold. The parameters of the compressor are Threshold, Attack and Release gain. The times can be set in Auto mode also depends on the program. The compressor threshold will run either as a hard-knee or with the patented dbx Over Easy circuit. The threshold is indicated by three LEDs, the gain reduction of 10 LEDs. The subsequent peak stop limiter acts as a peak or a so-called brick wall limiter. An LED indicates when the set limiter threshold is exceeded. Both channels can be linked for stereo signals, the operation is then performed with the controls of the left channel. The coupling is realized by means of true RMS Power Summing, this is a reliable and yet musical intervention guarantees in the signal.
