Waldorf Iridium Synthesizer Product Details
Waldorf Iridium Synthesizer: Powerful synthesizer in a compact format
The Waldorf Iridium is a versatile and powerful polyphonic synthesizer that offers the innovative synthesis engine of the Waldorf Quantum in a handy, rack-mountable format. With 16-voice polyphony, five synthesis models and extensive modulation possibilities, the Iridium is the perfect tool for creative sound artists and professional producers. Not only does it offer all the synthesis elements of its "big brother", but also outstanding sound quality and impressive flexibility, making it a must-have for any studio.
Powerful synthesis with 5 oscillator modes
The Waldorf Iridium offers three oscillators that support five different synthesis models. Each of these modes allows a different approach to sound generation and makes the Iridium extremely versatile:
- Wavetable: produces the characteristic, morphable sound of Waldorf's legendary wavetable synthesizers.
- Waveform (VA): Virtual analog synthesis for classic synth sounds with sawtooth and square waveforms.
- Particle: Combines sample and granular synthesis to create complex and textured sounds.
- Resonator: Adds resonant properties to the oscillators to create metallic and harmonically complex sounds.
- Kernels: Enables up to six sub-oscillators that can be linked via frequency modulation (FM) to create extremely dynamic soundscapes.
Filters and Digital Former: Unlimited sound shaping possibilities
The Waldorf Iridium has three stereo filters per voice, which can be adjusted and modified separately. They offer a variety of filter models, including models from the Waldorf flagships Nave, Largo and PPG. These filters are available in all combinations of low-pass, high-pass and band-pass with 12dB or 24dB slope. A digital shaper is also available, offering additional effects such as bitcrusher, comb filter, ring modulation and drive. The flexible routing option makes it possible to link and modulate the filters in creative ways.
Comprehensive modulation options
With 6 envelopes and 6 LFOs, the Iridium offers enormous modulation power. In addition, a complex modulator is available that enables freely definable waveforms for LFOs or envelopes. The 40-slot modulation matrix allows any number of modulation sources and destinations to be linked together. An additional control amount per slot gives you even more control over the fine-tuning of the modulations.
Easily accessible performance features and pads
The Waldorf Iridium features 4x4 RGB-lit silicone pads that can be used for playing notes, chords, arpeggios and sequences. These pads are particularly useful for live performances and creative playing styles. An integrated arpeggiator and step sequencer with up to 32 steps for notes and parameter lines offer additional possibilities for realizing rhythmic and melodic ideas. With the latch mode, you can also hold chords or sequences to create dynamic performances.
High-resolution touchscreen for easy operation
Another highlight of the Waldorf Iridium is the 7-inch industrial touchscreen. This high-resolution and extremely smooth-running screen enables simple and intuitive control of all parameters. Whether you are adjusting filters, assigning modulations or browsing through over 1,000 factory sounds, the touchscreen offers a quick and uncomplicated user experience.
Extensive connection options
The Waldorf Iridium offers a wide range of connectivity options to integrate it seamlessly into any studio setup. With two balanced jack outputs, two jack inputs, MIDI in/out/thru, USB-MIDI and USB host support, you can use the Iridium flexibly. It also has four CV inputs, a gate input, trigger in and clock in/out, making it ideal for combining with modular synthesizers. A MicroSD slot is available for expanding the memory so that you can easily load and save your own samples and patches.
Conclusion: An indispensable tool for sound designers and synthesizer enthusiasts
The Waldorf Iridium offers a synthesis platform designed for both sound designers and live performers. With five oscillator models, three stereo filters, extensive modulation options and a flexible touchscreen, the Iridium is a versatile and powerful addition to any music studio. Thanks to its compact design, it is also a portable and space-saving alternative to the Waldorf Quantum without sacrificing sound quality or features.
