Edirol UR 80 Product Details
For the maniac who craves hands-on control of the virtual world - the UR-80 is here.
Functioning as a control surface, an audio interface, and a MIDI interface, the UR-80 is a box with power.
Interfacing through a USB port on both PC and Mac, with the UR-80's intuitive tactile design, it will become your favorite external audio soundcard. A variety of controls are within reach: smooth gliding faders, compact punch buttons and precise rotary knobs allow control of up to 102 simultaneous parameters! With the UR-80 you'll have to be careful - remember your first sequence that was icky because you'd texturized it a bit too much? With access to this many controls and parameters you'll want to remember to leave air for your music to breathe... in the same way a painter leaves room for white space, allowing the eye to rest.
Connections such as XLR inputs which conveniently supply phantom power to your studio condenser mics are near the MIDI ports on the back, keeping your cabling out of sight so as not to clutter the mind. Transferring your music within the digital domain is easy with the SP/DIF optical and coaxial Input and Output.
Software synths love to be massaged with the UR-80 and just to whet your appetite, bundled with the UR-80 is a soft synth for GM2 MIDI files, the Edirol Hyper Canvas. OK, so now you've got your audio interface, your control surface, your MIDI interface as well as your MIDI synth...what's next?...a powerful software editor. Tired of writing your own sysex messages? This editor will formulate them for you, giving you nearly universal control of your software, thereby giving you nearly universal control of your music. Any MIDI message can be easily assigned and extensively manipulated using the UR-80.
Any video user who has an Edirol or Roland device that supports V-Link will be ecstatic to see that the UR-80 supports V-Link, Edirol's new technology that enables musical performances to be linked to video. Using a standard MIDI connection, a V-Link equipped device allows the triggering of clips, video effects and transitions to be controlled not by you, but by the actual EXPRESSION of a musical performance. Stop reading for just a moment and image the possibilities.
The UR-80 is a control surface that beckons boundaries - you'll want to do more to your music because you CAN do more with your music with the UR-80.
