Yamaha UX 16 Product Details

The UX16 is a USB-MIDI interface, and thus perhaps the easiest way to connect your MIDI instrument to your computer. If your computer is equipped with a USB interface (which is on most computers in recent years the case), you can use the UX16 to the USB port on your computer and the MIDI IN and OUT cables to your MIDI Connect the instrument (in the figure above, the cables are shown in abbreviated form, the USB cable is actually about 0.6 m and the MIDI cables are about 1.25 m long). You must then install a driver (on CD-ROM included) to make your computer a bit with the UX16 knows what to do. On the UX16, there are several indicator lights - they give about the correct connection, as well as send and receive MIDI events information. This way you can easily test the functionality of the interface.

What would I gain by connecting my keyboard to my computer?

Many keyboard players want to save, edit your songs on your computer and can, similar to using a word processor. By supporting graphical representations of music (either as notes or in the piano roll view), for example, errors can be repaired when playing better. Or maybe you want to print the notes of your masterpiece? With the UX16 you can connect to the computer - for the processing of your song, you will only need a music sequencer software. And there are different versions on the market, the cost of virtually nothing to several hundred euros.

Yamaha even offers a XGworks priced software for PC and Mac. With this software you can edit all aspects of your music in detail: From the Voices of Change and the volume of individual tracks to edit the pitch, velocity and timing of individual notes.

Which Yamaha instruments can be used with the UX16?

All Yamaha portable keyboards in recent years have MIDI jacks on its rear side (5-pin DIN). Most of our digital pianos, including the Clavinova series, also have MIDI connections. In other words, every instrument - it does not even have to be Yamaha's - that has MIDI connectors can be used with the UX16.

How many MIDI channels supports the UX16?

The UX16 supports 16 MIDI channels. So therefore you have a MIDI OUT port (16 channels) and one MIDI IN port (16 channels). 16 channels corresponds exactly to the number of channels, you need to play and production of General MIDI files.

What are the advantages of USB?

With USB you can connect the USB cable or disconnect while the computer is running. The UX16 is also supplied via the USB port, so it does not require an AC adapter or batteries. In addition, the number of MIDI ports by using a USB hub and multiple UX16 easily expand. Depending on your computer system, up to 32 UX16 be connected simultaneously.
