Dave Smith Instruments Evolver Product Details
Very compact analog / digital desktop synthesizer with the legendary Prophet VS waveforms Curtis filter chips, step sequencer and arpeggiator, and more.
The Evolver is a monophonic synthesizer with a really phat, warm sound that almost everyone - even much more expensive - can play virtual analogue synth loosely to the wall. Built by one of the great synthesizer pioneer Dave Smith, the founder of Sequential Circuits and co-founder of the MIDI standard in the early 80s. The SCI Prophet models, Pro One, Sixtrak, Drumtraks and Tom are certainly well known by many, this is / was the first synthesizer Dave Smith after all this time. Meanwhile, the three software revisions behind Evolver, the concept of Dave Smith continued to develop.
Equipped with four oscillators and a seasoned sequencer provides the Evolver not only fattest sounds and sequences not only for the recording studio but also for live performance and he is an instrument with real character! Who one vote despite the excessive modulation capabilities is not enough, certainly the right tool in place of the bigger brothers such as The Poly Evolver (rack & keyboard), the four complete Evolver and a few more features are on board. However sound the "pseudo-polyphonic" sequences of Evolvers desktop so that you do not want to believe the Evolver is monophonic.
New in version V3:
- A new bank of 128 sounds for a total of 512 presets now
- New modulation destinations, including individual filter cutoff and resonance for the left and right channels, Decay and Release Envelope and Distortion
- Program changes while the sequencer is now synchronized
- New sequencer modulation destinations including clock speed, midi note and controller transfer
- New sequencer clock mode: MIDI Note to Step Sequencer grade
- Split signal mode: a mono audio signal input can control the other mono audio signal input
- Tap Tempo mode
- Midi Signal indicator (dot on the display)
- Six new delay sync
- Longer Envelope rates
- New Glide mode if more than one note is played at the same time
- New trigger mode: per midi note is played once a sequence
Features:
- Two analog and two digital oscillators (DCOs) with selectable waveforms sawtooth, triangle, saw / triangle mix, and pulse waves (with pulse width modulation) plus hard-sync, 2 digital wavetable oscillators with 96 waveforms of the legendary Prophet VS (128 x 12 bits) and wave sequencing capability, FM and ring modulation, 32 user wavetables (loaded via MIDI capable, 128 x 16 bits)
- Real stereo signal path with separate Curtis analog low-pass filters on each channel
- Dedicated on board effects (feedback, delay, distortion, high-pass filter, etc.)
- 2 Low-pass filters: 1 analog Curtis filter per channel, selectable between 2 - and 4-pole operation (self-resonance in the 4-pole mode)
- Each channel has its own voltage-controlled analog VCA
- Noise generator Envelope Follower and Peak Detect plus (to the audio input to use as a modulation source). The external input can be used to gating envelopes and / or to control the sequencer (Stepsequencing)
- 3 Envelope Generators: filter, VCA, and assignable (four-stage ADSR)
- 4 LFOs (sync of sequencer or MIDI)
- Dual tunable feedback loops (modulated frequency and intensity)
- 3 banks of 128 programs (dump to / from MIDI)
- 16x4 step sequencer with a MIDI sequence for each program and gives the Evolver sync with evolving "pseudo-polyphonic" sounds to life
- Arpeggiator: up, down, up / down modes plus assignable and latched operation
- Glide (portamento): separate settings for each oscillator
- Digital Delay: 3 separate syncfähige, stereo delay lines
- Tuned feedback with "Grunge": use feedback as a pitched sound source
- Distortion and "Output Hack"
- Extensive modulation capabilities (to enter into the audio range)
- Easy-to-program matrix-panel
- Extensive MIDI implementation
- MIDI In, Out, Thru, and Poly Chain (Multiple Evolver can be chained together to increase the polyphony)
