Neumann BCM 104 mt Product Details
The next generation speaker microphone
The BCM 104 was specially developed for radio speakers to convey emotion with Neumann-typical precision. The design is application-oriented: The speech-optimized large-diaphragm condenser capsule is elastically decoupled and protected by an integrated pop screen. The transformerless circuit guarantees a direct, noise-free sound.
The world is listening
Radio, live streaming and podcasts are the most direct routes to the listener. This has spurred Neumann on to develop a microphone that is specifically tailored to the needs of speakers and presenters. After all, they are the ones who accompany us through the day and provide us with the latest information.
The BCM 104 was developed to convey emotion with technical perfection. Its characteristic shape is functionally optimized for use on microphone arms typical of broadcasting. The elastically mounted suspension prevents interference from structure-borne noise, while an integrated gauze screen behind the microphone basket protects the capsule from air shocks and pops. The microphone grille can be removed with a simple twist for quick cleaning. The large-diaphragm condenser capsule of the BCM 104 captures every nuance of the human voice completely unaltered. The sophisticated electronics guarantee an extremely low self-noise level of just 7 dB-A and can handle even the highest sound levels of 138 dB without distortion. An electronically balanced output circuit with high common mode rejection minimizes hum interference and other interfering signals, for example from computer monitors. Extremely low-frequency interference below 20 Hz is additionally suppressed by an active filter. If the BCM 104 is used with a small lip distance, a bass cut at 100 Hz can be activated to compensate for the proximity effect. A second switch can be used to reduce the output level by 14 dB in order to adapt the BCM 104 to equipment designed for dynamic microphones (which typically have a significantly lower sensitivity than condenser microphones). Both switches are concealed inside the microphone, as bass reduction and pre-attenuation usually only need to be activated once when setting up the speaker position.
Developed for the human voice
The BCM 104 works with a fixed cardioid characteristic that efficiently suppresses sound from the rear. The frequency response is very balanced, with a gentle presence boost around 4 kHz and a slight treble boost above 10 kHz improving speech intelligibility. Thanks to its outstanding impulse response, the BCM 104 captures every nuance of the human voice. Due to its wide transmission range, the BCM 104 is not "only" suitable for speech, but also for vocals and a variety of instruments.
