The polished black finish conceals a mahogany body which, together with a mahogany neck, delivers a warm and assertive basic sound. The two 490 R and 490 T humbuckers provide the characteristic SG sound. The aluminum hardware with Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece as well as the Grover tuners and the Graph Tech nut reliably hold the tuning. The SG Standard is supplied in a hard-wearing softshell case.

The combination of mahogany body and mahogany neck gives the Gibson SG Standard its powerful and assertive sound. The rounded neck profile is pleasantly slim and easy to play.
