The range of sounds is made up of two different sound engines: the AWM2 and the FM-X sound engine. The AWM2 is a software developed exclusively for Yamaha, which is much more than just a generic sample player due to its many modulation possibilities. FM-X means "frequency modulation" and is a particularly sophisticated way of synthesis. With the help of the 8 operators and 88 algorithms within the engine, there are many ways to create sounds, whether it's 80's strings or modern techno plucks, the MODX7 can do it.
